Four wins, one pole position and an unforgettable first CIV Junior weekend for the young racing project supported by Italjet.

Some racing weekends are remembered because of the trophies.

Others matter because they mark the precise moment when an idea stops being a plan and becomes something real.

For SPI Racing, that moment arrived at the Leopard circuit in Viterbo.

The opening round of the CIV Junior championship marked the official debut of the team founded by Giuseppe De Gruttola. It was the first time the mechanics, riders and months of preparation had all been brought together under the pressure of a live race weekend.

There was excitement, expectation and the unique tension that comes from launching a new team into competition.

By Sunday evening, SPI Racing had secured four victories, one pole position and a debut that exceeded even the most optimistic expectations.

For Italjet, which chose to support the project from its beginning, Viterbo provided an early demonstration of what can happen when young riders are given the correct environment, machinery and technical support.

Two Riders at Different Stages of the Journey

SPI Racing arrived in Viterbo with two riders facing very different challenges.

In the Legend category, 21-year-old Nicholas Fruscione carried the responsibility of delivering against high expectations.

In the 160 category, 11-year-old Oliver Tagliati arrived with limited racing experience but considerable potential still waiting to be developed.

One rider was expected to perform immediately. The other was beginning a much longer journey.

Both left Viterbo having demonstrated exactly why SPI Racing believes in them.

“It was probably one of the most emotional weekends of my career,” explained De Gruttola.

“The team’s first outing, the expectations, the responsibility toward the riders and all the work done in the preceding months created a unique kind of tension. But it is precisely these emotions that make the result we achieved even more special.”

Fruscione Delivers a Flawless Weekend

Nicholas Fruscione was the dominant force in the Legend category.

He secured pole position, won Saturday’s Sprint Race and returned on Sunday to take victory in both Race 1 and Race 2.

It was a complete performance.

Fruscione controlled each race with a comfortable margin over his closest rivals, converting the team’s preparation into three victories from three starts.

Pole position. Sprint Race victory. Race 1 victory. Race 2 victory.

There was no chaos, no last-minute rescue and no need for excuses. Just a rider and a team operating exactly as intended.

His performance confirmed Fruscione’s talent, but it also demonstrated the quality of the work taking place behind the scenes at SPI Racing.

Tagliati Shows Speed and Character

Oliver Tagliati’s weekend was less straightforward, but perhaps even more revealing.

From the moment he joined SPI Racing, the team worked to create a calm and positive environment around the young rider. At just 11 years old, confidence, trust and stability are every bit as important as outright speed.

The approach immediately began to produce results.

After qualifying second, Tagliati entered the Sprint Race with the pace to fight for victory. On the final lap, as he prepared to make his decisive move, the rider ahead suddenly crashed.

Tagliati attempted to avoid the fallen motorcycle, braking hard before also going down. A possible victory disappeared in an instant.

It was the kind of moment that can remain inside a young rider’s mind long after the damaged machinery has been returned to the paddock.

On Sunday, Tagliati responded in the best possible way.

In Race 1, he took the lead from the start and remained there until the chequered flag, securing an emotional and thoroughly deserved victory.

Race 2 presented another challenge. Contact during the opening stages forced him backwards through the field, leaving him with a recovery ride ahead.

He fought his way back to fourth place.

The final result did not fully reflect his speed, but it revealed something equally valuable: the mental strength to recover when a race begins to turn against you.

Talent may attract attention. Resilience builds racers.

At Viterbo, Tagliati demonstrated both.

More Than Results

SPI Racing leaves its opening weekend with an exceptional collection of results, but the wider significance goes beyond four victories and a pole position.

The team also leaves Viterbo knowing it has created an environment in which riders can perform at their best.

That has been one of the principal objectives of the project from the beginning.

Young riders require more than a fast motorcycle. They need technical knowledge, professional guidance, trust and a team capable of helping them develop as athletes and as people.

That philosophy is also central to Italjet’s support for SPI Racing.

The partnership is not simply a sponsorship agreement designed to place another logo inside the paddock. SPI Racing competes within the same Malossi technical ecosystem connected to the Italjet Racing Academy, and the project shares Italjet’s wider belief in developing young talent through genuine competition.

From Gresini Racing in Moto2 to the Malossi Racing Academy and SPI Racing in CIV Junior, Italjet’s involvement in racing follows a consistent direction.

Competition is not treated as decoration.

It is a proving ground for riders, technicians, ideas and machinery. It is where potential is tested under pressure and where ambitious projects either become real or disappear beneath the noise.

At Viterbo, SPI Racing became very real indeed.

The First Step in a Longer Journey

The Viterbo weekend represents only the beginning of SPI Racing’s journey.

The long-term objective is not simply to collect trophies, but to help young riders grow in sporting, personal and professional terms.

SPI Racing leaves its debut event with four victories, one pole position, renewed confidence in the project and an even greater desire to continue developing.

The next CIV Junior round will take place at the Modena circuit on 28 and 29 August.
